It's January 2019, I don't have a job anymore, the kids are at school, so this is it!
I create an Instagram page. Everyone is talking about Instagram... I have to try.
So I tattoo... I post pictures but then, how does it work? Some girlfriends manage to post their pictures on Instagram and they end up on their Facebook page... But how do they do it? So I ask, I search... It still doesn't work...
Finally, I had to uninstall the application... Oh yes!...
Well, it works!
After that, you have to understand the stories about "hashtags", "subscribers", different from "subscriptions"... In short, I still have a lot to learn about how Instagram works so that it can be effective...
I've been doing a lot of research and found out that Amazon has a special "handmade" category they call "Handmade". Amazon is so trendy at the moment that I thought "why not?
I propose my file... Oh joy! It is accepted! So I publish a few paintings and not even a month later an email announces the sale of my painting "Couple".
"Couple" - Acrylic on Canvas
50 x 50 cm
I reread the email several times, I look at who the buyer is... I don't know her! This Belgian lady, who doesn't know me, bought my painting! My heart is racing, I jump around, I call my Chou, who does not answer... I run down the stairs, I arrive like a madwoman in the kitchen and I warn my mother-in-law who is there. I run to warn my father-in-law who is working in the barn... I jump around! It's too big!
After the first happiness effect, I come back down to earth and it's time for reality.
Uh, now, in two days, my painting must be in Belgium...
Ok...
Packing, that'll do it... Bubble wrap and cardboard that I'll resize, that's good.
A little thank you note on the invoice attached to the painting, ok that's good too...
Uh, the certificate of authenticity... Well, I read some articles lately that made me want to redo mine entirely... So here I am, redoing my certificates... but I don't have the paper!
And my business cards! I have to slip in a business card!
I know I have some somewhere, in a box... I remember keeping them, packed... But where? I unpack a box, another one... Given the number of boxes piled up in the garage, it's impossible to go through everything! Ordering new ones, delivered the next day, is impossible!
The next morning, I went to get my paper for the certificates and cartridges for a printer. Oh yes! I forgot, the evening spent trying to draw my new card...
Busy day, board packed and finally, board sent.
I am very happy with my certificates of authenticity but not so happy with my business card. The paper is not very thick, the pre-cutting shows on the edges once cut and I'm not a big fan of the overall design... But I don't have a choice anymore, it has to go... And that's done!... My painting is on its way to Belgium...
Today, on 15 September 2021, I wish to share my experience. I do not regret any of these steps because they make me who I am and what I know today. I have learned a lot, I still have a lot to learn... And as I said in the first post (did you read it?), I want this blog to tell my experience, to reassure those who are not going through the same kind of ordeal that they are not the only ones to whom it happens and maybe to find together or propose solutions...
So today, for the packaging of your paintings, I suggest you watch the video of the artist Jessica Sansiquet
Want to know more about Amazon's "Handmade"?
And well, you have understood that I never renewed the test of business cards to be printed at home... I've been using Vistaprint for several years now and you?
If you want a special post about Instagram on my small level today, leave me a message in the comments. Well, I still have a few flaws that I'm working on but I'm working on it! I'm getting a little better every day...
Ditto for a post on the certificate of authenticity.
For the rest... See you next week...
